My 6 Quirks

One thing I've enjoyed about blogging is reconnecting with old friends (old as in I knew them years ago- OK, there's really not a great way to say this without OLD sounding literal:)).  Anyway, a blast from the past, MM sent me this tag and I thought it was a fun one, so with the help of my dearly beloved family, I've come up with 6 Quirks you may not know about me.

1. I squirm at the site of someone wiggling a tooth.  Wayne has been the one to help our kids pull their teeth out, sometimes with pliers.  I don't go near the action, however the kids have been known to torture me by running up to me wiggling their tooth.  I gag thinking about this quirk.  

2. I have big teeth and purple eyes.   THANKS, Grace!  Here's another....Every now and then I dust off my sewing machine and whip up a sewing project, but for the life of me I can't read a sewing pattern.

 

3.  I call Wesley my boyfriend.  True story.  I also kiss him all over his face as often as I can without making him annoyed with me.  Sounds like a good girlfriend, huh?

4.  I've mentioned this before, but I have a terrible sense of direction.  A recent illustration... I got lost on the way home from church last Sunday.  GPS was having a hard time finding the satellites, so I just kept driving on a scenic road.  I found a nice farm with purple cabbage and made a mental note to come back this week,  so it wasn't so bad.

5.  This one would drive you crazy, Julie K., but if you've ever watched NCIS and have seen Zeta botch English terms by saying things like, "I'm over it, boss." rather than "I'm on it, boss," you'll know how "endearing" this quirk is.  :)  I have been known to botch phrases and such on a semi regular basis.

6. I have a very hard time sitting for a long period of time, unless I have something to do.  ADD? Perhaps.  There's so much going on all of the time at our home that I get distracted or pulled from tasks very easily.  I would call it multitasking except that I find it hard to keep track of my multi tasks- I've been known to burn batches of cookies, but thankfully not the whole kitchen. 

So there you have it.  6 quirks.  I hope to overcome at least a few of these in my lifetime, but will be sad when it's just plain weird to continue #3.   I have to laugh, because unlike MM's hubby, Wayne was more than helpful with this list:):)  He thought preferring diet drinks over regular should have made the list, but I think that's perfectly normal behavior.

1. England, specifically Bedfordshaire where some of my ancestors set sail for America.
2. Scotland, the Castle Menzies, again for family history reasons.
3. Victoria, BC with the PNW family, but Seattle for starters.
4. The Alps...again, but this time with my sweetheart. Hands down Switzerland is one of the most picturesque places I've ever been to. I'd love to take off w/ Wayne to the Carribean as well.

1. Duke's- the hula pie is sinful
2. Chipotle
3. Mama Maria's in Boston's North End -gelato to die for!
4. Johnny Rocket's. I craved the onion rings when I was pregnant. I still crave them from time to time, so maybe it had nothing to do w/ pregnancy. They're just plain yummy!

4 things I'm looking forward to in the coming year...
1. Disney World & Animal Kingdom!
2. Running in the Boston Marathon...just seeing if you're paying attention! For reals...WINNING w/ my biggest loser diet team, and then beating my time in the Hyannis Sprint Triathlon.
3. Clam bake, Camp Joseph, & the Christmas wreathmaking party...all w/ my family as well as old & new church friends
4. Christina's 12th birthday & her first temple trip!!!
5. I have to add...all of our comings and goings with extended family. We love to visit and we love your visits to New England! XO!

4 things I'm NOT looking forward to in the coming year...
1. Cold until May, but thankfully there's always something to do in New England, rain or shine.
2. No ceiling fans this summer.
3. Sporting a bathing suit in FL this month....hopefully my diet/exercise plan will work and I won't feel so lame come summer.
4. Sending our dear friends, Ann and Gary off to South America on their 18 month medical mission. We will miss them! This could also be something I'm looking forward to though because I have no doubt that tremendous blessings are in store for them and I can't wait to see the fruits of their labors...they deserve whatever outpouring of love they receive! I look forward to Wayne's and my turn:)

5 things you may not know about me....

1. I love taking road trips, yet I'm a "home-body."
Wayne and I started our marriage with a road trip honeymoon up the CA coast (craziest fun honeymoon memory was hiking Half Dome at Yosemite together). I love discovering new places w/ Wayne. He's my GPS (see #3). Since then we've made many fun family memories this way...discovering the good 'ol USofA together, visiting church and US history sites, museums, temples, and playing with extended family & friends. Oh, the good times!
THAT SAID...I am a home-body, and love to be home with my family. I've thought a lot about this and I'm pretty sure it has to do with losing my mom at the tender age of 49, and having a close call when Grace was born w/ a heart defect. Although I often feel like I live in a zoo, I love time with my family and fully realize that our time together is a blessing to be treasured. Sometimes while I'm doing the "ordinary things" (help w/ homework, breaking up squabbles, dinner, carpool, grooming kids, etc.) I can hear my mom's voice telling me, "Cherish this!"...so I do.

2. I am anxious to fully recover from my c-section because I love to exercise. For me, exercise is the catalyst that effects how I eat and feel. My goal is to best my time in a sprint triathlon next fall. We have a super fun triathlon here for people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities...my kind of race. It's on Cape Cod, one of our fav. places in MA.

3. Having said I love road trips, this next fact is worrisome:) ...I am directionally challenged. Right now our church building has a circular hall with all of the classrooms on the outside of the circle and the chapel & cultural hall in the middle. I honestly wonder if I'll ever figure it out! Wayne and I kid that on the day they passed out the inner GPS gene, I was absent. I'm pretty confident a GPS is all I'm getting for Christmas this year.

4. My favorite parties are Christiansen parties. Because we live far apart, C. parties don't take place nearly frequent enough and maybe that's why they are so full of energy and the volume is so high; talk about a ruckus! The most recent C. party I attended was a bridal shower for my sister-in-law. She sat there taking it in ("who are these people?"), and dished out a few times too. Oh my, we knew Ange was a great family fit when she still spoke with us after that:):):)...her mom was there too! We fully admit we're nuts and we simply have a ball together. Come to think of it, C. parties are really essentially parties including my cousin Sharlene and my sis, Sherry....hmmmm! LOL!

5. Sometimes I wonder if my sisters and I are twins separated by years. After not seeing each other for months and months, we'll show up to a family gathering with coordinated outfits, (without pre-coordinating). The first year Wayne and I were married I decorated our tree with red little bows all around and heirloom ornaments. We stopped in Vegas to visit my sister on our way to CA for Christmas and sure enough her tree looked identical to mine! The latest thing that made me lol, was a picture I sent of our sons' room. It's blue with horizontal sage and navy stripes 3/4 of the way down the wall. My sis sent a picture of her sons' room which I'd never seen and it was the SAME only her stripes were vertical. We've been through SO much, my sisters and I....we've got enough differences to keep things interesting and enough seasoned love to keep us close. I'm thankful for sis-in-laws I love like sisters too.
