High Adventure

Wayne spent half of last week on a Venture Crew high adventure trip to Maine. They camped, did some white water rafting and some rock climbing and rappelling {I'm sure our experience climbing at Zuma Beach as coincidental extras on "Bay Watch" gave Wayne all the confidence he needed}. Funny thing... when I thought of Wayne going on this trip, I was most concerned about the rock climbing. Little did I know...

On Friday, mid-day, Thomas and I were driving to a swim party, and I had the impression to pray for Wayne. I asked Thomas to pray for Wayne's safety, and for our day in general. He did and we went about our day.

Wayne got home late Saturday night and started telling us about his adventure. He said that at mid-day on Friday they were white water rafting. They hit a class five portion of the course and Wayne and the guide were thrown from the raft. The guide ended up right by the raft and got back in quickly, but Wayne had a harder time in the rapids. He was stuck under the raft 3-4 times, and remembered the instructions they were given: if you end up under the raft, avoid the urge to swim left then right trying to find the side of the raft, but rather choose one direction and stick to it. At one point Wayne was 30' from the raft. There were times when he was under the water thinking, "I should be at the surface by now!" After several minutes he finally was pulled back in the raft, drained & white in the face. It's crazy how even a strong person and swimmer can be in that kind of danger.

Needless to say, I'm so thankful for prayers answered.

Of course Wayne and the whole Venture crew had the time of their lives. Photos to come.

so glad he was able to get back to safety--- was it also a safety requirement to wear a life vest? The power of prayer is indeed real.

Yep, life jackets were a must, as was a signed, pretty in depth liability waiver.

We also had to wear helmets. I have a nice bruise on my rear end from a rock that I don't even remember hitting.

A powerful lesson on listening to the promptings and teaching your children the power of prayer.

Did Wayne have a life vest on?

I pray for my children's safety every day too!

Wow! That was a blessing indeed. I have a close friend who lost his son in this type of incident. Prayer is a powerful thing...and there's something particularly powerful about a child's prayer...and how great that you were in-tune to be aware of that prompting! So glad all turned out well :-)

Ugh. This made me feel sick! Pie and Sid just came back from their High Adventure trip last week (biking, hiking two 14'rs, river rafting) and I had no idea how dangerous the river was. One of the dad's (who didn't go on the trip) grew up in Golden where they were rafting and remembers every summer they would pull bodies from the river. I was told this YESTERDAY, when my guys had been home nearly a week but it still totally freaked me out. So glad that Wayne was safe and protected--and that you were prompted to pray for him. Faith inspiring but terror inducing....

I hope the fire hose came in handy. We missed you guys at the campout. What nice weather for a change!
