Halloween Report

If you were at our house for Halloween this year you would have seen this when you walked in the door...
How to make a Halloween Banner: The letters, tutorial, and inspiration came from Cottage Magpie, the black and white paper behind the letters came from Target in the scrapbook isle, and the ribbons either I already had or came from JoAnn's.
~~~~~~~
You would have seen the following invitation to our Halloween Dinner posted on each child's door...
Dinner featured Yellow-eyed Mummies (Ketchup didn't show up on the turkey dogs)
Witches' Fingers (green beans)  "Please pass the witches' fingers." was heard at the dinner table.
 and Last Years' Pumpkins (Pumpernickel bread cut with a pumpkin cookie cutter).
We ate by candlelight.  Our centerpiece was a vanilla candle sitting in black beans in a glass votive. "Nice touch with the black beans, mom!" -Thomas
Wayne joined in the fun and set speakers on our porch playing Halloween music.  He did the trick or treating trek with the kids while I held the fort and Wesley slept.  I'll catch him in his costume today and post a pic.
COSTUMES:  I was THRILLED to have 2 little girls who wanted to be GHOSTS this year!  We had 2 white sheets ready to be ripped at the hem and that was that!
For Aniken I bought a l/s brown shirt from Old Navy that Thomas could wear to school, black sweats, and spent maybe $3 at JoAnn's for the vest material.  A black belt from my old jacket finished that costume off.
For Christina's M&M costume I just bought some pink fleece, sewed up the sides, cut holes for the head and arms, and added elastic at the bottom.  I ironed on an M using fusible web and part of the white sheet I had cut up from the 2 ghost costumes.  The Result:  4 decked out Trick or Treaters...
Warning: Too much Halloween trick or treating fun can result in a "Post Halloween Meltdown."  The cure is a cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows on top, and snuggling time.
We hope your Halloween was lots of fun too!
As fun as ours was, I have to admit I'm so excited for November to be here.
I've already got the first Thanksgiving decoration I acquired (made in Boston Ward RS in '97) sitting in my kitchen window....
And to think, you don't actually LOVE Halloween. Well, you could fool us all, Rebecca! Love the decor and the kids. And that menu-WOW! We had a potato bar. I think it took even less effort than the fish sticks on Thursday's menu. Glad you all had fun.
I want an invitation to next years Halloween! I love all the fun of Halloween.
Kelly and I went to our local drive-in where our ward had a trunk-o-treat. I put candy corn in the fingers of deli gloves and filled the glove with kettle corn and tied a green curly ring around the ring finger. Kelly had fun telling the kids we'd cut off witches hands and then tickling their tummies with the popcorn hand and scarying them by saying "BOO."
Wow, Rebecca! I'm glad my boys don't know how much more fun they'd be having if they were a part of your family or I think they'd be pretty upset with me.
The costumes look great too!
have you ever seen 'over the hedge'? saturday afternoon I had three hammie's (sp?) running around...so we took them to the park to let them unwind and for dinner they were only allowed scrambled eggs and a veggies...I worried that we would have a sugar crash..if it happened it happened in their sleep :)
We've still got WAY too much candy around here. I think I'll gather it all up and use it for work bribery for a year (for myself included:)).
Notes to Self: I used paper plates, etc. for easy clean up. I knew the kids would be anxious to go trick or treating, so I kept things super simple. I saved the dinner invite on the Mac, so next year I can just change up the menu and print it out on the extra Halloween paper.
***Best of all, the Halloween dinner was a tradition that ALL of the kids enjoyed, regardless of age. I think that's what I loved most of all. So glad we started this up this year!
Wow, I can't believe that you came up with different menu items from the last time! Your are too creative! The kids looked great, and it sounds like it was a super fun night.
I have a friend who does Halloween theme snacks in her kids' school lunches the week of Halloween. They help come up with ideas. I love that! ...maybe next year we'll tack that on to our Halloween to do list.
