Ice Storm '08

Look what we woke up to this morning!  We could hear some snapping and crashing last night, but slept through the ice storm. This morning the trees are still covered in ice and you can still hear snapping and crashing from the upper limbs falling down.   You can see branches down all along our street and in nearly every yard.  In the center of the photo you can see that our grill was crushed.  The tree trunk to the right of the grill was uprooted and the top of the tree can be seen up close right outside our kitchen window....
Thankfully no windows were smashed.  We were without power last night so I got to bed at a decent time.  The kids are home from school today...Christina and Thomas are thrilled, Grace- not so much.  We'll have some fun and hope that we've seen the worst of the ice storm.

ADDENDUM:
Wayne took the following photos.  We were without power for several hours, so I'm just now able to add them here.  Pretty amazing.  We've never seen anything like this.  The sun is out now and everything is melting.  Icicles are showering down like rain.  Branches are still breaking and falling here and there.  We've got a fire in the fireplace and the kids are "cleaning the playroom."  We all cheered when the power came back on, let me tell you!  I need to melt chocolate to make my cake bites!

PS. Cheri, do you recognize Wayne's tan coat in one of these photos? It's the one John gave him ages ago...LOL!

Don't worry lil' grill buddy. We can rebuild you — we have the technology.

Sounds fun. We only got rain here in DC. They said we'd get snow, but they lied.

Better, stronger, faster.

But anyway, how scary. Glad that the damage was just limited to trees and the grill. I'm always so sad when that happens to trees here (although ice storms for us are pretty rare) but I guess you guys have a lot more trees to work with out there.

Ice storms are not my fave! Sure, they make for some cool sights of ice-encased everything--it really feels like you're living in a Winter Wonderland, but... The damage and the life without electricity are not so great.

Stay safe and warm. Drink lots of hot chocolate and snuggle, snuggle, snuggle!

P.S. Sorry about the grill, Wayne! Have fun rebuilding!

Those ice-covered limbs are so cool looking. It's a winter wonderland. Still, I'm glad we missed out on the scary driving conditions and falling trees.

I couldn't figure out what that black thing was.. never would have guessed a dead grill. I remember an ice storm in Ithaca. I was scared because my Mom was but I remember it being really beautiful. jan
p.s. I love your nativity and the straw idea.

Was the Camero tucked away in a garage? You can now make your gril into a bbq pit.

Glad all of you are safe.

IF you want to come to SD & pick it up, you can have my identical grill...we NEVER use it. I won't brag then, that it's in the high 60's today--raining & gloomy, but man, I don't miss the ice, snow, sleet, yuck! Looks like a lot of service projects will take place in MA over the coming days. Glad you're okay!

glad no major damage happened to your house, altho it's too bad the grill was crushed. I love the picture you took looking down your street with all the trees covered in ice.

YIKES! I am not a fan of cold weather, I don't think your grill is either.
