Have you heard of The Submarines?

To celebrate our recent 14th anniversary, Wayne and I went on a hot date.  We started off at Not Your Average Joe's on Rte. 9 in Westborough.  Our waitress was great.  Food (between the two of us): Steak tips, salmon, coconut crusted shrimp, asparagus, & green beans...all delish.  Afterward, we killed some time in Boston walking around the Christian Science headquarters which is known for its architecture.

We walked through the Prudential Ctr. shopping tunnel and ended up at our destination: The Berklee Performance Center, an intimate concert hall with just a 1220 capacity.

We were thrilled to see The Submarines open for Aimee Mann.  Aimee Mann is very talented and has some nice songs.  It was fun hearing Aimee play "Red Vines," "Save Me," "Freeway," "That's Just What You Are," and the blast from the past from when she was with 'Til Tuesday..."Voices Carry."  (She led up to "Voices Carry" by saying she hardly ever plays it "because, well, it's kind of stupid," and the audience had a good laugh.)  If she cleaned up her language her show would have been much better (in my opinion).  She took requests, telling the audience they could write down a song and bring it up to the stage.  About 20 people did so, and Aimee obliged, for the most part.  It was a spontaneous, casual twist to the concert.  I thought the shout outs were hilarious--"You look great, Aimee!"  "We love you!" "Welcome home, Aimee!" (she attended Berklee)

The Submarines were just plain fun & purely enjoyable entertainment.  The Submarines are a husband and wife band and they bring along a drummer on tour.  Blake Hazard is the great-grand-daughter of F. Scott Fitzgerald.  She came on stage with a wolf hat "to calm her nerves" and she certainly broke the ice.  We all had a good laugh.  Although they obviously were a little nervous, The Submarine's talent and positive energy really shined through...we thoroughly enjoyed the show!  We bought both of their CD's, t's, pins, and Wayne was the first to put his name on the email list.   The Submarines will be at the Mercury Lounge in Manhattan on July 29th at 7pm.   I called my Manhattan brother from the concert to tell him about it in case he's looking for something fun to do.  Our favorite songs are: "Swimming Pool" and "You, Me, and the Bourgeoisie."  Favorite lyric (from the latter song): "Love can free us from all excess from our deepest debt, 'cause when our hearts are full we need much less."  I also love..."Everyday we wake up, we choose love, we choose light and we try." (also from You, Me and the Bourgeoisie)

Highlight.....We met John and Blake (ok, several times;).  First, Wayne met Blake during intermission.  She was in the lobby and they spoke for a few minutes.  When Wayne told me he met her I bolted for the lobby to see if I could meet her to tell her how much I enjoyed her performance.  Sure enough she was still there.  I quickly gave her my praise, and then back at our seats I kicked myself for not snapping a picture with her.  After the concert, The Submarines were in the lobby greeting folks on their way out.  Their CD's were selling like hot cakes.  We met John (Wayne said, "Hey, John..."- cracked me up), and he and Blake were kind enough to let us snap a photo with them...SO nice.

When I saw Blake signing CD's, I asked Wayne to bug them one more time and have her sign one of our CD's, which she kindly did.

Pretty fun, huh?

Thanks for the memorable date, Wayne!  I'm thankful for every day of the last 14+ years.  You are my love.

How fun for you two! Our 15th is coming right up on the 7th, but we won't be celebrating until the 12-13 because of scheduling. Well, mostly because of my mom, who will be watching Tommy for us while we are up at Steamboat Springs. She somehow forgot to consult us when she planned her own anniversary trip during OUR actual anniversary. Her's is the 21st of August. So why she is going to be gone the 2nd through the 9th is beyond me! But she will be watching Tommy for us, so I can't really complain, although I do anyway :)
