The last couple days have been hard. Our stalwart van died. It's just a car, but we've had it since '01 and it took us on over 170K miles worth of memories. We're juggling the Honda Accord coupe while we try to figure out a replacement.
We've been planning on going to our former ward's annual clambake for months and Wayne was going to bike there, but we can't all fit in the Honda, SO.... being the thoughtful hub he is, Wayne opted to hold the fort with Wes and encouraged me to go up to the clambake and see a dear friend of mine from my mission, as well as friends from our former ward. Crane Beach is one of our favorite beaches in MA. Today the weather was the best we've had for a clambake in years, 60's and breezy, and the beach outing was good medicine for my attitude. Thanks, Wayne!

PS. On the long drive to Crane Beach we pointed out lots of familiar sites along the way. After several stories that started with, "Remember when...," Grace said, "Let's talk about good times we've had all the way there."
Hearing the kids lovingly recall good times, even the bloopers, makes all the effort to get some housework done, get our crew ready, pile in the car, compartmentalize some stress, and have a really nice time making yet more wonderful memories.

what a perfect day! I know EP was so happy that the weather was going to be so nice.
SUCH a fun tradition!!!
So sorry to hear about your engine that 'could!' I'm surprised yours took you this far, that's awesome--you certainly got your money's worth:) Your clambake always sounds like such an event to behold! You should have rented a van so you all could go!!!!:) That would have been an expensive trip though:)
Wow So fun!!
Wow your weather did look beautiful! Every time I think of your clambake I think of rainy cold weather like it was the year we went with you guys! I'm so sorry about your van, that is so stinky.
Gorgeous photos! Such a perfect picturesque beach! Sorry for your recent woes, but you and your family are so beautiful, and do so many amazing things that you'd never know there was any stress!
Beautiful photos of my favorite MA beach. Wow do I miss it still. Sorry about the demise of your van. I hope you find a replacement vehicle soom.
very nice photos!!!
Rebecca! This is Katie Stayner Creer! I found your blog through Betsy (don't ask me how!) What a beautiful family you have! I have a little blog (nothing special!) Would love to catch up through our blogs!) I don't have to say 'Hope you are doing well" because you are!!
Wayne can't do he magic mechanic repair tricks on the van this time? Got duct tape? :) Glad it didn't die a couple of weeks ago when I was there! The clam bake looks fun!
Aw, that Wayne is a good guy. Sorry about your van. My big kids still pine for our old red mini van that was totaled when it was rear-ended by a Semi on the freeway---WITH US IN IT--and I have to laugh because I do so enjoy the Suburban. (Then again, the twins used to talk and talk about missing the old house--the doll house--but now that we are back, they have kinda cooled on it :)
Those pictures are absolutely stunning!! And you and your kids are gorgeous.
Good luck on picking another winner--170,000 miles is not too shabby.
So fun! I would love to join you for the famous clambake one of these years.
So sad about the van. She's lived such an interesting and long life.
