Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a super yummy Valentine's breakfast....blueberry pancakes & fresh strawberries. We use Alton Brown's pancake mix recipe & keep it on hand for mornings such as this.

*A note on the serving plate...When we moved to Boston we had one babe in tow and it was easy for years & years to make the drive to Manhattan to visit my big brother.
We love NYC and have great memories of playing in Central Park, the Shake Shack, Chat 'n Chew, Empire State Bldg., Statue of Liberty, the temple, Central Park Zoo ($3 per kid!), the Met, Museum of Natural History, cabs, getting caught in the rain, Broadway, Grand Tacino, Manhattan Childrens Museum, Grays Papaya, Chinatown, Madison Ave., Patsy's Pizza, the outdoor market at Union Sq.....& that's just off the top of my head. Every trip we made included a stop at Fishs Eddy where we'd purchase a random plate or two (this morning's serving plate being one of them). The online store shows the lines they carry, but in the shops they have a wide variety of dishes from all over...country clubs, universities, towns, racquet clubs, etc. So if you have dinner at our house you'll note that no two plates are alike...lots are from Fishs Eddy, some were plates that once carried treats from friends, and others were made with love by our kids at the local pottery shop. At each meal it's nice to have a reminder of fond memories and acts of kindness. Family traditions can be this simple.

yummy. This is what we ate for breakfast today too. I love family traditions and your plate idea is darling! Memories over elegance any day I think.

BTW the last post of Grace is the most beautiful picture and beautiful post. I loved it so much. Please tell Grace she is so beautiful. I hope that they got my valentine. The guy at the post office promised it would be there by today.

Love you guys!

I love your plate tradition! We still use the plates we registered for at our wedding and I am a lover of dishes, but never purchase them...I should take a page from your tradition...each one would tell a story over bfast, lunch, or dinner--how wonderful! ANd yummy pancakes! I have a heart waffler and it gets lots of use this time of year...
