As a spontaneous way to celebrate Christina today, I piled the crew in the car and headed over to Small Farm in Stow, MA. We paid $5.50 for a flower bucket, picked a pair of scissors, and headed out through the farm. The owner said, "Pick anything you want and have fun." We walked through the farm cutting flower stems. The owner told the kids they could all have a bucket and then we just combined the flowers into one bucket when we were done. We probably ended up with 3 dozen stems...not too shabby for $5.50! The kids gave the handpicked bouquet to Christina for her birthday.
The catch was....bees. About a year ago my kids (minus Wesley) were attacked by a swarm of baby wasps, and needless to say they are a little edgy when they see bees, wasps, etc. So, Caroline was nervous picking flowers, and then she was sad when she only had one in her bucket when we were done. She's a little young for facing your fear therapy, but we'll come back for more. It was a beautiful and fun little outing.
More pics of Christina's day to come, but this is a short slideshow of our visit to Small Farm.

Happy Birthday Christina!!!
What a great idea! And such a beautiful place! I want to go take pictures there now! And happy birthday Christina!
Wow, I'm so jealous! That's the one thing I miss about New England more than anything else--the pick-it-yourself farms (apples, berries, pumpkins). I didn't know they had flower farms too. What a great idea!
Hey I found your blog...do you care if I add it to my list so I can be inspired to get out and exercise and look like you after 5 kids?! Our blog is http://hounddognews.blogspot.com
The picture of Christina with Grace and Thomas is beautiful!
such a beautiful place! I can see why you don't want to leave NE
What a neat place! I wonder if they have a flower picking farm around here. I need to check.
These gardens remind me of my Grandma Higginson's (my Grandma Teresa) flower garden. Florists use to come to her when they need more flowers. What a fun family activity!
