One thing we love best about autumn is the smell of apple crisp baking in the oven, and the TASTE of that warm, bubbly apple crisp à la mode.

Our friend, Ellen has shared her famous apple crisp recipe on her blog (see the sidebar). We made a batch on Tuesday after picking JonaGold, Golden Delicious, Gala, and Cortland apples at Tougas Farm. One think I love to do when baking apple crisp or apple pie is to mix a couple of complimentary baking friendly apples such as Golden Delicious and Jona Gold. A gal at the orchard suggested Cortland (if you like a firmer baked apple) and Golden Delicious. So, that's the combo I used for our apple crisp. Delish!

It's calling my name sometime soon with my supply of apples in the fridge! I'll have to try that recipe.
